Bruno Cidra (b. 1982, Lisboa)
Bruno Cidra’s work is deeply informed with a concern towards drawing and sculpture. Frequently inhabiting both practices simultaneously, his pieces are not only evidences of how drawing praxis and thought can be ingeniously intertwined with the processes — both intellectual and practical — of making and thinking a sculptural object, but also how materials themselves can be challenged and deceitful, particularly regarding paper, iron and bronze. His practice is also connected with an increasing dwelling upon the questioning of the white space, frequently embracing site-specific installations in less conventional exhibition spaces, ultimately creating scenes and ambients in which sculpture can be present as a nearly living thing, crawling, lingering and growing within a multifaceted plane. Not rarely hinting towards references in Art History and mythical culture, his work is often a reflection regarding his personal atlas of images and signs, constantly referencing an inward questioning of his very own trace of signatures in time.
